Alternative Movie Posters
During my second year of university, we dove deep into 'who we are' as a designer. When I was starting out, I was heavily inspired by the genre 'Sci-Fi', more specifically the sub-genre 'Cyberpunk'. The brief that was given to us was to produce 3 outcomes based on designs that have inspired and impacted us to become the designers that we are today.  I wanted to re-create 3 'Cyberpunk' movie posters. I chose the movies Akira, Blade Runner 2049, and Ghost in the Shell.
Cyberpunk as a genre is known for its 3D holograms and bright neon colours. I wanted to re-create text warping across a building that can be seen throughout most movies in this genre. This is where I came up with the idea of using quotes from characters in the movies for this effect. I then needed something for the text to warp around. After much thought and lots of testing, I decided to use shapes that represent each movie. For Akira, the circle are the wheels on the famous motorcycle as well as a nod to the Japanese flag as the movie is set in Neo-Tokyo. For Blade Runner 2049, I chose to recreate the main villains 'Wallace Corporation's logo with rectangles, and for the last poster, Ghost in the Shell, I decided to use a triangle as it's used through as a symbol. There's also a popular theory that it represents the human psyche.
